Acorn Studios in the Fall/Winter Oregon Bride Magazine

I won’t lie. One of the cool things about being a photographer is seeing your photos in action! From snaps of wedding photos hanging on a wall to discovering your photo used in a publication overseas, it is all very exciting to me. I love knowing that my photos help tell a story.

Yesterday I received the Fall/Winter 2015 Oregon Bride Magazine and I was thrilled to see my photos featured in two editorial spreads. There is something about a printed image that really brings it to life. So much better than on screen!

In the first spread–entitled “Portfolio”–my image was used to highlight some of Oregon’s top jewelers. Talk about a tough photo to create! It doesn’t look that difficult, but let me tell you, ring photography is the toughest part of my job! Photographing bling is difficult. You are contending with shine, size and circular objects that just want to roll away. Throw in some fresh flowers that are have a mind of their own and it is all hands on deck to make an image happen. I am so lucky I had a great team helping me the day of the photo shoot!

The second spread–“Unveiled”–featured upcoming trends. Another challenging set of images given that copper is very reflective. If I wasn’t getting shine from lights, I was having to make sure I wasn’t reflected in the items. 🙂 As a reward for my efforts, the team and I were able to enjoy the amazing cake by Foxtail Bakeshop from Bend, Oregon and wash it down with the awesomeness that is marionberry vodka from Wild Roots. If you ever have the chance to try either–don’t think twice!

I had so much fun working with Oregon Bride and look forward to many more shoots with the magazine!

Daniel and Claren | Wedding at The Aerie at Eagle Landing

Wedding season has officially arrived and I am one happy wedding photojournalist! Wedding season is my Superbowl, so it is a pretty big deal when it arrives. Even better, this wedding season has kicked off with a bang–WARM sunny weather and a month of amazing weddings. I never thought I would need so much sunscreen in June!

One of the first weddings of the season was Daniel and Claren’s beautiful wedding at The Aerie at Eagle Landing last week. Wow! This was a new venue to me. I had seen pictures and their booths at bridal shows, but until last week I never had the opportunity to work there. Let me tell you, it doesn’t disappoint. The Aerie is even more gorgeous in person and the staff does an amazing job.

But enough about hosting a wedding at The Aerie at Eagle Landing. And more about Daniel and Claren. 🙂

I officially met Daniel and Claren last year when I photographed their friends’ wedding. At the time I met them, I had no idea that a year later I would have the honor of photographing their celebration. What a fantastic compliment!

It doesn’t take long to realize that Daniel and Claren are a fun loving couple. They are a genuine joy to be around–funny, personable, driven and genuine. I thoroughly enjoyed exploring The Aerie with them as we tried different locations for photos. They entertained my ideas and made my job so easy. I mean, look at Claren’s smile! It lights up a room!

From their emotional vow exchange to their great family speeches, the entire day was wonderful. Lawn games and a great DJ kept the party fun and light hearted. And personal touches such as a “selfie station” guest book and date night idea bucket really kept guests involved.

We rounded the day out with a fantastic sunset photo shoot and sweet first dances. All in all it was a great season opener!

Another virtual garage sale!

Periodically I clean out the gear bag and sell items that are not being used or that I am upgrading. This means you have an opportunity to purchase high-quality, professional gear at bargain prices!

This week I am selling an amazing camera. It has been a work horse the last couple years, but it is time to “retire” it to a good home and greener pastures. 🙂 I purchased my Canon 5D Mark II body new from Calumet Photo for $2699.99. I am selling it for a fraction of that price. Even better, I’m including a Canon battery grip, which sold new for $250! This package deal won’t last long. The are listed on eBay, so get them before they sell on June 21!

As a full-time professional photographer, my gear is my livelihood. I assure you that this camera was well cared for and babied. Any minor cosmetic blemishes do not affect functionality. I did not see any blemishes on the body during a quick inspection. There are a couple blemishes on the battery grip, but again, they do not affect functionality. I used this camera as recently as last night. The camera has had a protective film on the display since it came out the box (I removed it today for photos).
The camera went through a full 18-point maintenance and cleaning by Canon in December. In December the shutter count was 68,343. The camera has been used since servicing, so I do not have an updated count for you. My best guess is that it is around 70,000+/-, but it would need to be sent to Canon for verification. In short, there is LOTS of life left in the shutter.
Everything you see in the photo is included: box, English and Spanish manuals, discs, cords, battery, charger, neck strap, USA/Canada warranty card, battery grip and battery magazine. Sorry, I do NOT have a box for the battery grip.
I am selling these items AS IS, so no returns. If you have questions or need more photos, please ask! And of course, I accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover and PayPal. 😉
Canon 5D Mark II Body with Canon Battery Grip: $950

Optional Shipping ESTIMATE (includes mandatory insurance and signature confirmation): $42.15

Truett & Mary | Lake Oswego Wedding at Mountain Park Church

I love when I am able to shoot a wedding at a new (to me!) venue. As Truett and Mary’s Lake Oswego wedding photographer, I was able to enjoy the fantastic locations offered by the Mountain Park Church and the nearby Mountain Park Recreation Center. What lovely venues for the ceremony, reception and photos!

The weather on Truett and Mary’s big day could not have been more cooperative. Our early Oregon Spring meant blossoms in full bloom, lots of lush greenery and just all-around loveliness! The grounds surrounding the Mountain Park Church were great for photos. And a “tunnel” just up the path from the Church offered the opportunity to get creative with lighting and portraits.

Truett and Mary’s ceremony was heartfelt and lovely. There was laughter. There was tears. And there was a bit of comic relief when the groom’s vow pages were all out of order.

The reception was also such a treat to photograph and experience. The groom’s talented nephew played piano during dinner. The groom’s good friend came from the Seattle area to DJ. And the evening climax was the groom’s band belting out some tunes for the crowd. I little bit fancy. A little bit rock ‘n roll. A whole lot of awesome.

Here are some of my favorites from Truett and Mary’s big day–and what a wonderful day it was! I am so thankful to have been a part of it. Congrats to the happy couple!

Sam & Diana – St Patricks Day Wedding at the Octagonal Bar

The Spring wedding season has officially kicked off and the first stop was McMenamin’s Cornelius Pass Roadhouse. Sam and Diana’s day was a fantastic way to open the season. And, honestly, it was my first St Patricks Day wedding! With my personally connections to Ireland, it was a fun way to celebrate the holiday.

Sam and Diana chose to celebrate their wedding on St. Patrick’s Day to pay homage to their Irish ancestry. Both families have historical ties to Ireland, so it only seemed natural. From Irish Blessings to green umbrellas (which thankfully only had to be used briefly!), every detail had been thought of. Guests enjoyed a buffet meal and some of the most awesomely decedent cupcakes ever!

The Roadhouse and it’s octagonal barn were the perfect backdrop for this lovely spring wedding. Outside we took advantage of the green landscaping and gorgeous trees in bloom. Inside we were able to enjoy the rustic elegance of the venue. During the wedding, McMenamin’s was hosting their St. Patricks day celebration in the restaurant next door, but you’d never know it! In true McMenamin’s fashion, juggling events was seamless.

I throughly enjoyed being a part of Sam and Diana’s St Patricks Day wedding. The party atmosphere was amazing and the guests were some of the most organized and patient I’ve ever met. You wouldn’t believe how quickly we got formal group shots done. Records were set!

I hope Sam and Diana enjoyed their honeymoon in Dublin. And I wish this wonderful couple many happy years…

May the road rise to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face
and the rain fall soft upon your fields
And until we meet again my friend
May God hold you in the hollow of his hand

-An Irish Blessing
