Matt and Nanette | Documentary Wedding Photography

What an amazing day! Today marks the official start of my 18 week wedding season. And talk about a kick off!

Matt and Nanette’s beautiful celebration was the perfect mix of emotion, fun and elegance. Documentary wedding photography at it’s best! I could not have asked for a more easy-going couple. I knew the minute they stepped into my studio back in February that they would host a party that was amazing. Both are so laid-back and easy going, they are also incredibly hospitable and wanted to show guests a great time.

For their ceremony and reception, the couple chose the Columbia River Yacht Club. This was my first time visiting the club and it was a truly spectacular venue. There are panoramic views of the Columbia River, Interstate Bridge and even downtown Vancouver, Washington. Our unusually dry June gave us a day that started overcast and gray. But about five minutes before the outdoor ceremony began, the sun broke through and gave us stunning light. (Of course, I had to work quickly to reset all the camera gear–I had prepared for clouds!)

Matt and Nanette chose to work with a wedding planner and it really kept the flow of the day on track. If you’re on the fence about hiring a planner–do it! They are worth every penny. Not only do they tend to the details and put the bride and groom at ease, but they also make everyone’s job easy. Caterers, banquet hosts, DJs and, of course, the photographer all know where to be and when to be there. It made documentary wedding photography smooth for me. Fantastic! Liz from Soleil Bliss coordinated today’s celebration and every detail was thought of. The day didn’t miss a beat!

I still have hundreds of photos to get through over the coming week, but in the mean time I wanted to share a couple standouts. It was such a lovely day that I can’t help but give a sneak peek!

Congrats to the amazing couple!
