Gerard and Darina | Destination Wedding in Ireland

Normally I try to feature weddings and portrait sessions in order. However, today I had to make an exception. Over the weekend I was in Kilkenny, Ireland playing international destination wedding photographer for Gerard and Darina’s big day on Saturday. And what a day it was! I felt very honored by the invitation to document their day.

Ger and Darina’s wedding celebration started in a beautiful country church. Everything about the ceremony and venue was picture perfect–from the vintage 1928 Regent the bride arrived in to the vast blue skies and rolling green hills welcoming the bride and her mother. Absolutely stunning!

The service was lovely and made me wish I was a videographer for the soundtrack alone. The musicians the bride and groom chose for the responsorial psalms where out of this world. The voices those ladies had were phenomenal! And Father Eammon delivered a lovely mass and ceremony that did an excellent job balancing personality and Catholic wedding formalities.

After the ceremony, we took a detour to the Heywood Gardens for formal photos of the bridal party–a real treat for me! The gardens were so picturesque that you felt like you were stepping into a Jane Austen book or an episode of Downton Abby. Exquisite is the only way to describe this serene and breathtakingly gorgeous location. Love, love, love the photos taken there. *swoon*

Last stop on the wedding tour was Ger and Darina’s wedding reception at Hotel Kilkenny. The well choreographed reception was completed by an awesome live band, a DJ that kept the party on the dance floor, and a live screening of the All-Ireland Hurling Championship Final between rivals Kilkenny and Tipperary. (Kilkenny won, which was perfect for about 85% of guests. *wink*)

All in all, it was a spectacular day and one that I couldn’t wait to share with you. Here are a few favorites from the day.

Congrats to the newlyweds!
